Day 310

Yesterday I had a talking to Ammon about not sharing his toys with Abe. Every time Abe attempts to touch something that belongs to Ammon, he shreeks, “ABE!” and snatches it away… I explained to him, that a little bit of slobber will not ruin his helmet, and his blocks could just be wiped, but he was still dubious, saying “But he slibbery slobbers over them and will wreck them!”

Today we spoke about this again, and I reminded him that his toys were not only his, and he needed to share them. I explained that it was ok if he kept Charlie (his bear) special and kept him to himself, but everything else, was for everyone to play with.

A while later, Abe and I were sitting on the lounge room floor playing and Ammon came walking over holding his bike helmet (which Abe had been enjoying playing with for the last couple of days before it would rudely be snatched away). Ammon had a little half smile on his face as he handed the helmet to Abe, and stood back to watch Abe pound on it with his little hands and attempt to eat the straps. Ammon glanced over at me, still wearing the curious little half smile on his face. I grinned back at him and he bashfully looked at the floor. I quietly sung his praises and he absolutely glowed. I’m not sure I’ve had a prouder moment than this… seeing his humility and willingness to share his favourite things to make someone else happy. I will even admit to getting a little misty eyed as I looked across at his loving little gaze on his baby brother.
